Slow garden update

A bit late but this was the state of affairs back in August. Looking after the baby, trying to keep the garden and house up together aswell as doing garden projects that had been long put off was impossible. Something had to give. So I weeded round the whole back garden and front garden once and then took to the projects that never got done.

Sweetcorn coming along nicely.

Nice tips beginning to go browney

Pond has had the plants cut back and the oxygen weed trimmed as it went a bit wild. STILL need to finalise edges etc at some point and put a fence or something across to keep Jessica out next year.

Foreground lots of strawberries from 1 plant 2 years back.

Nice calendulas although not many at all this year and corgette

A stray potatoe got left and went wild!! Has an awesome crop out of it!

Added some new plants this year again. Trying to get a lot of green in the pond to naturalise it.

Looking good but need more this end.

Cascade with the ferns really works well here but we have a massive problem with the blanket weed!!

Finshed shapng this end of the border by the liner so it goes round and put some new plants in. Hope one grows up nicely to cover the filter.

All gone a bit wild here :-(

So all in all not a bad year. Shedloads more done than last year when I was heavily pregnant and only got 1/4 way round. Even managed to get some pots that I brought last year - and somehow survived! - put out in borders and in bigger pots.

Will put another update up later on for the end of season ...

Gardening contines - All be it slowley!

Well here are some more pictures. I have done a lot of weeding and digging over of both the veggie patch and started on the borders. The veggie patch is finished and I have now moved onto one of the borders. That is mostly complete so ready for planting in. Very warey of what I put in though as we are still getting some hard frosts.

Need hubby to cut the grass now so I can do the borders:-D

I have bright pink and yellow primroses - It look like they have made babies and a made new variety! Pretty light pink and yellow.

Entertaining the baby on a gardening mission out in 10'c in March lol.

Do I have to stay here while you garden?! Got 20 minutes before she wanted in.

Playing with mummies flowerpots!

Bash! Bash!!

Veggie pots in the greenhouse beginning of April.

The fishies live! We have 4 babies from last year. 2 shubakins 1 is bluey and the other is more of an orange and white mix. And we have 2 black ones. One is very small only about an inch long.

And having mummies icecream ...

Plants I brought last year when pregnant to put out! A I was too busy and B the weather was sooo pants before I had her that I just didn't get out to plant them. Thankfully some are coming up again so are going out this year before anything else!

Lots of forget me not - reminds me of my nan as this comes up at the the time when she died and reminds me of her :-)

Pretty flowers on a pond plant.

Plants to go out after a spending spree at B&Q at the weekend. Got some plants for 20p, 30p, 50p. We like cheapies!

The greenhouse end of April

Saturday 6 April 2013

The gardening year is well under way!

So I started getting all my seed sewing bits out back at the beginning of March onto the dining room table and bit by bit I started to sow. This is always late at night around 10:30pm as this is when the baby is safetly tucked up and well asleep! As is usual I have a massive list of what I am growing! Mostly Veg and some Flowers. I have some Strawberries from last year that have decided to put down tons of runners over winter which is fab so today I have been pulling these apart and potting them up.

The plan is to do the majority of the growing in my 2 veggie boxes. But as the chicken keeping plan is on hold I am going to use the veggie patch for left overs and the big bits like Corgettes and sweetcorn as well. Spent today digging over half of the veggie patch and also digging up the compost and turning it over. It has sunk nicely and turned into lovely crumbly soil texture. Just perfect!

So this is where I started at my table ...
Here are this years plans ...

And every year I keep a notebook with dates in. What I plant - on what date - how many seeds sown and I modify my sowing based on when the seeds came up the previous year and if I need more of les seeds. Here is this years list and when sown!

Here are the seedlings!

Now for a general peek at this years gardens progress so far ...
This is a mid winter fire dog wood. The stems are going from yellow to orange to bright red at the tips at the end. This is the 1st year of its "burning" colour. Not bad and it's survived! £3 on ebay ...

Veggie box 2 - You can see the strawberries and runners. Dug over today pictures to follow ...

Box 1 ... Dug over today except the leeks which are still in ...

Here is my christmas lenten rose. Always does well and a great seeder! Want any small plants just shout! I got tons.

A view across the garden. Most bushes cut. A few tall bits where I cant reach - that will be hubbies job.

The froggies have been "at it" again ...

Some gorgeous primroses ...

And more ...

The veggie patch ... started digging --- now finished that top side. Again pictures to follow ...

Another view up the garden on the left handside. All neat :-)

So thats it for today!! It's a'' go go gooo ... This weeks plan ... Get Aprils seeds and some summer bulbs planted! Haven't done summer bulbs before so this should be fun! Springs bulbs are only just emerging although I did plant them late in all fairness - Late December.Have a great week people! x
